Eagleton 86 is a rare kind of East Coast ultra: long, remote, and genuinely technical—run in early May, when most races are still playing it safe.

If you’re traveling to the U.S. and want a race that feels like a true backcountry mountain test without high-altitude excuses, this is it.

86 miles. 28-hour cutoff. One buckle.

Set in Pennsylvania’s Sproul State Forest, Eagleton 86 runs deep through Eagleton Fields and the legendary Chuck Keiper Trail—a rugged, wild landscape of steep hollows, ridgelines, rock gardens, and tight singletrack. Expect constant technical footing (roots, rocks, narrow tread), repeated sustained climbs and descents, and long, committing stretches between aid stations that demand smart pacing and real self-management.

This is not a “cruise-control” course. It is old-school trail running where attention matters and small mistakes compound over 86 miles. The payoff is a race that feels raw, authentic, and earned—the kind of experience many runners travel for, but rarely find in the spring on the East Coast.

Eagleton 86 sits in the same rugged family as Eastern States 100 and Black Forest Ultra, with its own no-frills personality: remote, technical, and relentless.

If you want an early-season ultra that proves something—about your legs, your head, and your ability to keep moving when it gets real—welcome to Eagleton.
