Run with us on the Skye Trail, a simply breathtaking route passing through some of the finest mountain ranges and coastal trails in the UK. Explore it’s entirety at one go, ultra-style.

“Awesome to run (1st year) Awesome to support (every year since) on a lonely outpost for many hours. We, (Karen, now Donna & Stuart too as the numbers grow) go way above & beyond at the Elgol outpost to ensure you are rested, fed & ready for the final 23 mile push. I know no other race like it. Join us. Be sent on your way by us. This race is like no other.
 
On the toilets: They are porcelain, they flush, the water & drier work. Just don’t turn your torch off. Nae lights. But if you only pee in 5-star establishments (not many runners do) keep your torch off. The sploshing at your feet is actually tap water!!”

“The Skye Trail is a challenging, unofficial long distance route through the stunning landscapes of the Isle of Skye. The trail covers 128 km of tough terrain including spectacular mountain and coastal scenery. It follows much of the celebrated Trotternish Ridge and also passes under the very shadow of the jagged Cuillin, the finest mountains in Britain. There are remarkable but almost unvisited coastal cliffs, steep trails above high drops, and the haunting ruins of deserted villages destroyed in the Highland Clearances.
 
It is not waymarked and some sections do not have paths. Excellent map reading skills are needed to complete the trail and this route is strictly for the experienced hillwalker. However the rewards as you walk south from the most northerly point on the island are many in terms of the diverse scenery passed, the small communities visited and the superb opportunities for watching wildlife. The route is devised for those who prefer to get well away from the beaten track and have already gained wide experience of Scottish hillwalking. There is relatively easy access by public transport, and to accommodation at the end of each stage, but it could also be done as a backpack using a mixture of campsites and wild camping in the more remote areas.”

You can compete in this event without any support – we will ferry your dropbags to the four CP’s. You may include food, clothes, shoes etc. Any contents not used will be returned to race finish where you can collect them.

Elevation

A virtual race which can be run at any time shown on the dates shown, on any type of terrain in any country.

Suitable for

For runners from beginners to experienced as you choose your own course and challenge based on the guidelines and options set by the virtual race organiser.

Endurance - Multi-activity

Elevation

An ultra distance race including at least two of the following activities such as running, swimming, cycling, kayaking, skiing and climbing. It may also include different climatic conditions (eg ice, snow, humidity, cold water, mud or heat).

Suitable for

Experienced multi-skilled athletes who have trained for the different activities included in this event. Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements and any specialist equipment required such as a wetsuit, skis or a mountain bike.

Brutal

Elevation

Increase of up to 2000 metres with very challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity, heat or at high altitude)

Suitable for

Very experienced long distance ultra runners (min 3 years’ experience) or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races is often subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Purchase of specialist kit is often recommended for these races.

Expert

Elevation

Increase of up to 2000 metres with some challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity or heat)

Suitable for

Experienced runners who have completed at least 4 ultras in last 12 months, or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements.

Advanced

Elevation

Increase of up to 1500 metres

Suitable for

Runners who have completed several ultra distances or similar events, or are doing long distance running regularly, with elevation shown.

Intermediate

Elevation

Increase of up to 1000 metres

Suitable for

Runners who have completed at least one ultra in last 6 months or are doing long distance running (>26 miles) regularly, with elevation shown.

Beginner

Elevation

Very little change < 500 metres

Suitable for

First ultra event. Runners completing a marathon or doing regular long distance running (>26 miles) in the last 6 months.
