The History

The coastline began its retreat from the foot of Pembrey Mountain some 6,000 years ago, revealing land which shows human occupation since the Iron Age, with hill forts dating from around 400 BC. Roman pottery remains have been unearthed in the oldest parts of the village. Evidence of an early Norman motte-and-bailey castle has been suggested close to the village square and buildings remain in the village from later Norman times.

St Illtyd flourished in the latter part of the fifth and beginning of the sixth century, and was held in high veneration in Wales. St illtyd

This race is a multi terrain race although most of it is through trails and fields there are also some road crossings  and although road shoes should be ok, we would advise wearing trail shoes as some areas may get a little boggy after heavy rain, as this is a multi terrain race some areas can be quite harsh underfoot.

This event is fully marked using tape & arrows for the full distance. Marshall’s are in place at the Aid Stations. First Aid Medics will be present throughout the race too. We advise you to download the GPS file here https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/route/1148683/50KM-ROUTE and print off your own map to bring. We do not provide printed maps for runners.

Please Note;

Despite the fact we take huge care to fully mark the route it is always the runners responsibility to stay on course. The runner should have a basic awareness of the route direction, carry maps and remain aware to spot the tape at all times. Tape can go missing.

Runners must be prepared for this eventuality and take ownership to stay on route. Failing to accept this responsibility can be very dangerous on trail events. We will do all we can to help you stay on track. Please do all you can to take care of yourself.
