Summit Wild Ultra (32 miles)

Sunday 29th July 8.30 am

TOTAL CLIMB  1381M (4533 feet). This is a UTMB 2 point qualifying event (ITRA verified)

The Summit Wild Ultra is a relatively new addition to the Something Wild Trail Running Festival (now in its 4th year) and is the ideal distance for your first ultra – even though it is by no means an easy one. Several experienced ultra runners said last year that it was the most beautiful route they had ever run.

It starts at the festival site at Huccaby Farm and crosses Dartmeet and up towards Yar Tor and Sherwell, continuing up towards Cator Common. Then there’s a short tarmac sectionwest to the plantation at Bellever before a gravel climb up to Laughter Hole. Afterwards, you head down to Brimpts farm and a return to the start/finish (and first feed station).

The initial 8mile loop completed, runners then head back to Dartmeet (where the East and West Dart converge) and a long short, sharp climb to Sharp tor before dropping down to the stony track along Dr Blackalls Drive, a faste two mile section to New Bridge. From there you will enter Holne Woods and reach the second feed station as you approach Holne.

You will cross through Holne down towards Hembury Woods and return (after the 3rd Feed station at Scorriton) via Holne ridge to Combestone tor. You will still need your wits about you in the final furlong however, as another river crossing beckons, via the Huccaby stepping stones. Finally you’ll complete a circuit of the 10k course via Yar Tor and Babeny stepping stones coming back through Brimpts Farm.
The cut off time for this event is 10 hours.

All finishers will receive a commemorative technical t shirt. The route will be well marked and marshalled, with a minimum of three feed stations on route. We will also supply you with laminated maps of the route and GPX. On your return, you’ll be greeted by our live band, honesty bar and cow shed café. There will be a speakers Evening and camping on site at the farm, so stick around!
