It has been a while coming, but Edinburgh will be launching a new ultra marathon in October this year. Scotland has become a real centre for the sport and although this ultra can’t offer you the grandeur of the Highlands, it should still be pretty special.
The Ultra Tour of Edinburgh, is 50km and will take you round all the best bits of the city.
The route starts on the Royal Mile and travels over three peaks in the Pentland Hills before finishing at Murrayfield Stadium.
There is 1000m of ascent and descent and it is organised by Rat Race.
Jim Mee, of Rat Race Adventure Sports, said: “We are looking for around 500 runners to take up the challenge of the inaugural Ultra Tour.
This is a fully waymarked journey through the city streets and outlying countryside that includes historic urban landscapes and evocative landmarks, parklands, hills, rivers, cycle ways, foot paths, canals and coastal waters.
It truly is a tour-de-force of Edinburgh sightseeing, all wrapped up into an achievable but challenging ultra run event format.”
There will be three feed stations on the route offering a variety of sweets, food and drinks at each. It is Edinburgh so…toilets will also be available. There is also a hot meal and a medal at the end.
It takes place on October 22nd.
