The Lakes Sky Ultra Skyrunning event was held in the Lake District (UK) on 23 July. It is a very technical trail and fell course with a total length of 56km and a total ascent of 4500m. The 2016 second race of the UK’s Skyrunning National Series, this European format offers marked courses over technical terrain. It is for runners to test their strength and fitness, not their navigational capabilities.
Setting out from Ambleside Campus (University of Cumbria) at 7am in great weather and perfect running conditions, 91 runners headed towards the mountains, ridges and scrambles of the Lake District, including a roped section through Eagle Crag and Pinnacle Ridge in the Grisedale Valley. Both Donnie Campbell and Sarah Ridgeway set new records for this event.
