A fun and easy read about Owen, a middle aged man with a somewhat troubled past taking the plunge and running for five days through the foothills of Nepal. The book tracks his journey from a single Facebook post which intrigued him, to being a reluctant ultra-marathon runner to taking part in an epic adventure along with 6 new found friends, well five as he already knew Emily! It’s great to take the journey with him as he deals with broken kit, worries about his fitness, and ultimately how he picks himself up and gets to the end. Once I picked this up it was hard to put down, it’s not a massively long read so great to take with you on holiday or to read on the way to your next ultramarathon start line! Be prepared to be inspired to take part in your own adventure.

862 to Kathmandu refers to the 862 miles of training runs around Northampton and its surrounding countryside. Taking part in the inaugural “Capital to Country Ultra Marathon”, Owen ran from the beautiful Sankhu Gate to the east of the city and 123 miles into the foothills beyond.
