PROS: What’s good about the Mammut Trovat Pro t-shirt

The most interesting feature about this t-shirt is that it uses Polartec® Power Wool™.

This is a patented combination of merino and synthetic fibres which the manufacturers say, “enhances the performance benefits of each fibre while resolving many flaws of traditional blends …. wool fibres offer increased base comfort by retaining insulation and breathability even when wet. Their absorbent nature pulls moisture vapour away from your skin, transferring it to the outer synthetic layer where it expands and evaporates more quickly. This mechanical wicking action allows Polartec® Power Wool™ to keep moisture in motion at all times.”

So, does it work? I found that it did work in terms of wicking and also being a bit less smelly after a run than a purely synthetic top. I managed to wear it for two runs without washing.

When you get it out of the packet, the material has a slightly bobbly/rough texture but feels very light and breathable.

Running in the afternoon up a hill in Morocco produced enough sweat to give the shirt a really good work out (and me!) and it performed rather better than I did. The material does wick the sweat away and the moisture evaporated well. I was left with damp patches on my back where my pack was but that is inevitable.

In terms of fit and sizing, the shirt is true to size and although I thought it was a bit short when I first saw it, it wasn’t when I put it on.

CONS: What’s not so good about the Mammut Trovat Pro t-shirt

It’s a simple and practical but not particularly fancy or decorative.

This is a very cleanly-designed top but it does not have any extra add on features, so if you like a little pocket or a longer back or mesh sections, then this is not for you.

It is at the higher end of the price scale.

Conclusion

This is a hard-wearing, good, functional top that I am getting a lot of use out of. It’s cool and comfortable in hot conditions and the fit is good. I pick it for longer, hotter runs.
