As an avid trail runner and mountain guide, I recently had the pleasure of testing the NNormal Tomir 2 trainers and boot version across a variety of terrains, from the rugged, lesser-known areas of the Yorkshire Dales to the well-trodden paths of the Lake District. After using both versions in these demanding environments, I can confidently say that they excel in both performance and comfort.
To say I was impressed would be an understatement.

Performance:
From the very first step, the NNormal Tomir 2 showed an impressive balance of comfort, support, and responsiveness. Whether I was navigating the uneven limestone tracks of the Yorkshire Dales, where each step demanded careful attention, or tackling the rocky trails of the Lake District, these shoes performed seamlessly across varying surfaces.
One of the standout features was the Vibram® MEGAGRIP LITEBASE sole, which provided exceptional grip in both wet and dry conditions. On the steep, technical sections of the Dales, where mud, loose rocks, and slippery limestone is ever-present, the Nnormal Tomir 2 delivered excellent stability. I felt completely secure, even on the slipperiest rocks and through patches of sodden grass and deep peat bog.
In the Lake District, where wet stone, muddy paths and steep climbs over varied terrain, the shoe maintained superb traction, allowing me to move confidently without worrying about slippage, even in the trickiest sections.
The midsole cushioning, crafted from the brand’s EExpure 45C supercritical foam, was another highlight. The cushioning felt perfectly balanced—not overly plush, yet with enough responsiveness to absorb shocks during longer runs and hikes. During multi-hour hikes guiding on the Yorkshire Three Peaks using the boot version, I felt the protection needed to prevent fatigue while still maintaining a sense of agility and connection to the terrain. The shoe’s 8mm drop and improved rocker shape with its adjusted toe spring ensured smooth transitions and a natural stride, especially on prolonged uphill climbs and downhill descents.
Another feature worth mentioning is the upper construction. The ripstop TPE material used in the upper provides a durable fit, the only mention here is that the breathability could be better but it does not take away from the excellent quality of the shoe. The 360-degree nylon stitch reinforces the shoe’s structure, enhancing its overall durability without compromising on comfort or flexibility.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Nnormal Tomir 2, however, was its adaptability. From the grassy, boggy moorland of the Dales to the rocky, often wet conditions of the Lake District, the shoe maintained an outstanding level of security and grip. Whether on uneven ground, rocky climbs, or muddy descents, I never felt like I was compromising on traction or stability. The shoe’s versatile design and quality materials makes it ideal for those who enjoy exploring a range of terrains, from remote trails to classic routes.
Pros
- Superb traction, especially on soft trails.
- Comfortable foot-hugging fit.
- Excellent cushioning.
- High quality materials.
Cons
- Maybe a little narrow for some with wider feet.
- Upper a little stiff until broken in.
- Can get a little hot inside so breathability could be improved.
Conclusion:
The NNormal Tomir 2 is the shoe of versatility. It excels in every department—comfort, grip, cushioning, and durability—making it the perfect companion for trail runners and hikers seeking a shoe that can tackle diverse and challenging environments. Whether you’re exploring the hidden areas of the Yorkshire Dales or conquering the known routes of the Lake District, this shoe will give you the confidence and support you need to enjoy your runs and hikes out in the hills.
