STYRKR CEL50 Energy Chews Review

STYRKR’s CEL50 Energy Chews divide 50g of carbohydrate into five small pieces, making it easy to adjust intake without opening several products. Each packet also contains 267mg of sodium, giving runners an alternative to taking all their electrolytes through drinks.

I tested both available flavours, Wild Berry and Citrus Fruits, during long days on the trails. They fitted best alongside real food, providing a measured source of sports nutrition without forcing me to consume another gel or sweet drink.

Quick Verdict

CEL50’s main strength is simple portion control. Each chew provides 10g of carbohydrate, so I could eat one or two at a time rather than committing to the full packet. Both flavours remained pleasant after several hours, while the soft texture made them easy to eat on the move.

Features

  • Carbohydrate per packet: 50g
  • Carbohydrate per chew: 10g
  • Chews per packet: Five
  • Sodium per packet: 267mg
  • Potassium per packet: 205mg
  • Flavours: Wild Berry and Citrus Fruits

Taste and Texture

Both flavours are pleasant without being overpowering. I didn’t find myself fighting against them after several hours. Flavour fatigue can turn an initially enjoyable product into something difficult to swallow, but the small portions helped CEL50 remain appealing throughout the day.

The chews are softer than the firm, gelatinous texture found in some alternatives. They break down easily in the mouth, which helps when eating while moving or late in an ultra, and chewing can start to feel like unnecessary work.

Fuelling on Long Runs

I prefer combining sports nutrition with real food, but that can make it harder to track carbohydrate and electrolyte intake. CEL50 provides a simple reference point: two pieces equal 20g of carbohydrate, while the whole packet supplies 50g.

The sodium is useful when I want plain water rather than another bottle of flavoured drink. It shouldn’t be treated as a complete hydration strategy, however. Sodium needs vary with conditions, exercise duration and individual sweat losses, so heavy sweaters or runners racing in hot weather may require additional electrolytes.

In STYRKR’s published comparison, CEL50 contains more sodium per packet than Clif Bloks, SiS Chews and Precision Fuel & Hydration PF 30 Chew. Those are manufacturer-supplied figures rather than independent laboratory results, but they show where CEL50 sits within the category.

Pros

  • Small, bite-sized portions make carbohydrate intake easy to measure.
  • Soft texture is easy to chew while moving and late in long sessions.
  • Both flavours remained pleasant over a full day.
  • Each packet provides 50g of carbohydrate and 267mg of sodium.
  • Works well alongside real food and plain water.

Cons

  • Five separate chews take longer to eat than a gel or drink.
  • The sodium content will not meet every runner’s electrolyte needs, particularly in hot conditions or for heavy sweaters.
  • Only two flavours are available.

Conclusion

CEL50 gets the fundamentals right: the chews are soft, tasty and easy to ration in 10g carbohydrate portions. I found both Wild Berry and Citrus Fruits easy to keep eating over long days, while the sodium made them particularly useful when I wanted to drink plain water rather than another flavoured sports drink.

They work best as one part of a broader ultra running fuelling plan, alongside real food and other nutrition. The 267mg of sodium per packet is a useful contribution rather than a complete electrolyte strategy, but the combination of straightforward portioning, appealing flavours and an easy-to-chew texture makes CEL50 a strong option for long runs and races. I will be packing them for my next race, Lakes in a Day in October.
