EVENT TYPE: Ultra distance foot race.
The entire route is on asphalt roads except for a 5-km dirt road section along the Mornos Canal from about the 5,5 th km until the 10,5 th km.
RACE DATE: 6-7 May 2023
START – FINISH: The race will start at Plataea on Saturday 6 May 2022 at 19:00hrs, and finish at Delphi on Sunday 7 May 2023 , at 11:00hrs.
TIME LIMITS: The race is having a limit of 16 hours.
All runners should be aware that all checkpoints (CPs) are also cut off points. Therefore, runners should reach the CPs in time. Failure to arrive in time will result in disqualification.
BIB NUMBERS: The BIB numbers and the timing chip will be handed on Saturday 6 May , at the registration desk at Plataea from 15.30 until 18:00hrs.
It is required for all runners to have arranged and paid for the race fee in order to process their registration and issue a BIB number. All successful payments will result in the BIB numbers to appear in the participants’ list.
It is mandatory for all runners to have their BIB number visible at all times, or easily accessible to show at the CPs during the race.
Accompanied runners will receive an accreditation for their crew member(s) and their vehicle(s), together with their BIB number. It is prohibited for a runner to receive help from a non-accredited crew member. Crew members must display their accreditation at all times during the race.
Runners who wish to deliver their drop bags must do so at the organising committee until 17:30hrs. The drop bags must have the runner’s BIB number and the CP number clearly written on them.
No drop bags will be accepted after 17:30hrs due to the limited time available to forward them. Drop bags will accepted only for C.PS. :XIRONOMI, THISVI, AGIA ANNA, KYRIAKI,LAKKA, DISTOMO,ZEMENO,ARAHOVA
Runners will be monitored electronically throughout the CPs along the race route. A brief technical briefing will take place at the starting line as soon as all runners receive their BIB numbers. Crew members should also attend this meeting.
OUTSIDE HELP: Any outside help from non-accredited members away from the designated CPs is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this clause will result in disqualification. Supplies provision, sustenance, change of clothes, shoes etc. is to take place exclusively at the CPs.
RUNNERS’ EQUIPMENT: It is compulsory for all runners to have a head lamp, or a torch, during the night. It is also compulsory to have a red lamp on the back, or high visibility garments. Noncompliance will result to disqualification.
It is recommended to all runners to have a windproof, or waterproof top as the temperature at night time plummets.
TRANSPORTATION: A bus will be available for the transportation of all athletes on Saturday 6 May 2023. The bus will depart from Platia Karaiskaki in Athens, next to Hotel Crystal (The Stanley), with destination to Plataea at 14.30:hrs. The same bus will return from Delphi to Athens following the awards ceremony and the lunch on Sunday 7th May afternoon.
HOSPITALITY: Τhe organisation does not support overnight stays in a hotel this year, due to the timing of the race it is not considered necessary. However , if anyone wants to stay in a hotel in Delphi before or after the race , they can do so on their own. For those who want we have agreed on good prices with the Iniohos hotel. However the organisation of the race has made sure that all the athletes can shower if they wish in rooms that have been reserved for this purpose at the Iniohos hotel.
Also they can have free breakfast at the same hotel. And finally lunch will be offered to all athletes after the awarding ceremony.
CHECKPOINTS: There are nineteen (19) CPs along the route and six (6) water stations.
Runners will be monitored at all CPs where they will find water, isotonic drinks, fruit juice, biscuits, snacks etc. There will be two central CPs where runners can find food (pasta, rice, boiled potatoes and soup) as well as coffee and tea depending on the time.
The central CPs are located at Agia Anna 48,5km, and Distomo 80 km
The water stations are not manned, water is provided for runners only (not crew members). Crew members are not allowed to park at water stations, or provide any help to their supporting runners.
Almost all CPs will be equipped with minimal first aid supplies (pain killers, vaseline, gauzes, deep freeze spray, band aids, Betadine (antiseptic), cotton, etc.).
Crew members must not parking and provide any help in CP 20, because we are on a highway and it is dangerous .They should go and wait for their athlete, directly at the next CP Zemeno.
At CP22 (water point) there is a tunnel . ATTENTION !! Athletes are not allowed to pass through the tunnel, but should follow the side road
Also, crew members will not follow the same route as the runers in the Mornos Canal (dirt road) , but will reach Kaparelli crossroad CP1 , via Kaparelli village . Instractions will be given before the race starts.Finally all runners and crew members should be aware of the race regulations and comply with them. Crew members in particular, should not provide any help between CPs, but wait for their runner(s) at the designated CPs. Crew members should refrain from parking between CPs. Noncompliance with the above will result in the runner’s disqualification.
AWARDS: All runners who will finish within the time limit will receive a laurel wreath, the torch of Euchidas, a medal and certificate of completion. The first six men and three women will receive trophies in addition to the above.
A certificate of participation will also be awarded to those who did not finish the race.
All runners who finish the race will get an additional medal from the Nine Muses race where the head of Euterpe is depicted; the Muse for whom the Nine Muses race is dedicated to. This way runners who successfully completed last year’s race, will get to add their medal next to the one of Clio , and Erato (last year’s honoured Muse) and enrich their collection.
All runners will get a race t-shirt as well as gifts provided by the race sponsors.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday after the end of the race, and the ceremony of lighting of the Delphi fire ( See the race programme). We note here that the athletes must be present at the ceremony in order to receive their prizes, in accordance with the rules of the race. Organizers are not required to send prizes to athletes who did not attend the awards Immediately after the awards, a meal will be offered to the athletes. .
HEALTH & SAFETY: The race is supervised by the organising committee, judges and stewards throughout its length.
Two ambulances, as well as doctors and physiotherapists will follow the race.
A bus will be available to pick up any runners who wish to quit, or do not reach the CP before the cut off times.
The police will be aware of the race progress throughout the race length.
DISCLAIMER: The organiser bears no responsibility whatsoever for loss of life, injury, or any health issues likely to arise during, or after the race. Runners agree in their application that they are aware of the race difficulty and ensure that they are in good health and fit to participate.
A recent medical certificate, issued by a medical doctor, has to be provided up until the race start.
The organiser is not responsible for any property loss (garment, valuables or equipment). It is recommended that runners have insurance coverage during the event that will also cover their return to their home country in case of death, illness or injury.
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Euchidios Athlos is conducted as per the International Association of Ultrarunners (www.iau-ultramarathon.org). It is incumbent on all runners to respect the race rules and abide by the instructions and decisions of the judges, stewards and medical doctors. Noncompliance with the race rules will result in disqualification.
